Promote or not to exist? Slovenia case.

Population: 2,051,000
Position: Slovenia is in central Europe.
Area: 20,273 km2
Length of borders: with Austria 330 km, with Italy 280 km, with Hungary 102 km and with Croatia 670 km; total 1,382 km
Length of coastline: 46.6 km

Slovenia is one of the smallest countries in the World, so there was huge task to promote young country, independent since 1991.
On official web site for visitors click they describe Slovenia like this:
"Slovenia is the only country in Europe that combines the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain and the Karst. The changing landscape is constantly surprising, time and again. You can have one eye on the sea, then look in the other direction and be surrounded by high mountains. Heading up into the forests, you can see the green plains below you. From upland meadows your view stretches into river gorges. This proximity of opposites and contrasts is a hallmark of the country."

They used many strategies to promote our country, one of the tools was commercial video for international broadcasting: click for watching. But there are more effective and free tolls like big sports event, example: Football Word Cup 2010, South Africa. Slovenia was in the group with America and they beat them, 1 week later keyword Slovenia was still top 3 search results on Google, everyone wanted to know more about our country!

And this is also one of the cheap and free consequences ordered and payed NOT by our goverment :).

What do you think? Who are the real promoters of our countries? Do goverment need to pay expensive short videos that are not so effective as examples above?
