When an amusement park transform the real experience of the customers to a virtual experience!

Hi Erasmus,

Because you are in Belgium, you will heard about the famous amusement park: Walibi.
I have met one of the people who worked for the Facebook page of Walibi. He spoke me about this interesting project. Have a Look!

WALIBI CONNECT: a world premiere that combines real and virtual in an amusement park

Youngsters will “swipe & like” at Walibi
Brussels, June, 29 2012 – Getyoo and Opengraphy announce their partnership with the amusement park Walibi for the launch of a world premiere: Walibi Connect. This new experience will invite all Facebook users to share their favourite attractions in the park in real time with their friends; a true junction between real and virtual! For the first time in the world, an amusement park will vibrate in real time on Facebook. This was made possible thanks to the know how of Getyoo and Opengraphy!
HOW IT WORKS
Participating is a dead easy process: before his visit to the park, the visitor (who has a Facebook account) goes to the website www.walibiconnect.be to receive his personal barcode that he will exchange against a wristband once he arrives at the park. And there he is, ready to share his real experience with his virtual friends. He goes to the first “totem” located in an attraction’s queue, then he “swipes” the totem with his wristband. The attraction he’s about to enjoy is thus directly displayed on his Facebook wall. There are 8 totems in total and the possibility to “swipe and like” the 8 most famous attractions of the park. For visitors who would like to try the experience but have not been to walibiconnect.be before leaving home, no problem: there is a free wi-fi hot spot in the park.
A TRUE INNOVATION
It is the first experience combining real world and virtual in an amusement park. From the park the visitor will be able to share his emotions with his friends at home, without the need of a smartphone or a computer. Walibi Connect is not only a bridge between real and virtual worlds but also an interactive game. The visitor who swipes 5 attractions becomes “Walibi Pro” and the one who swipes 8 of them becomes “Walibi Master”. Getyoo, an innovative Startup specialized in NFC (Near Field Communication) was in charge of hardware and all developments related to it: interactive totems, NFC wristbands, connectivity, server/client infrastructure as well as the general coordination of developments. The project has been developed in partnership with Opengraphy, Facebook Preferred Developer Consultant, who took care of all Facebook interactions: registration via Facebook Connect, barcode generation and posts on the social network. The project has been regularly followed by Facebook for the validation of each of the intermediary steps and it required 6 months of work to be finalized.
A CONCEPT WITH GREAT IMPACT
A Facebook user has on average 240 friends. Walibi estimates that an average of 15 “best friends” per account will follow the 5 “swipes” estimated per participant during his day in the park. It could allow to potentially reach from 750,000 to 2,250,000 contacts.« It is awesome» explains a young teenager « I have never seen anything like it and I really like the idea to share one of my activities with my friends.” Another student equally enthusiastic added “it is revolutionary we just need a Facebook account! Thanks to the totems there is no need to have a smartphone.” This novelty can be tested at the moment at the Walibi Belgium park only.
