Generations Y and Z and the Use of Internet

In this week’s class we learnt that our brain fonctions differently than for people older than us. In our generation, we use information in a different way. In fact, we take less time and effort to research information and we make less logical links between informations. Why that? Because Goolge does it for us. We do not have to think by ourselves, the biggest tool to collect information does it for us.

That might seem surprising for older generations, but that is part of who we are and the environnement in which we were raised. That being said, let’s look at two generations, including ours, on which Internet had and still have a considerable influence.

Our generation is called the generation Y. We are known as incredibly sophisticated kids since we grew up with technology and rely on it since a low age. Most of us count on technology in order to be better in our jobs. We are known for being constantly online through our different devices. We prefer e-mail and text messages than real life communication and we would rather read an online article than an old style book.

The generation after us is called the generation Z. These kids grow up with a highly sophisticated media and computer environment than us. Indeed, this generation is called the C generation for communication, connection, creativity and cooperation. They grew up in a world of digital technologies marked by extremely rapid evolution. They are motivated by the digital, but they are essentially a recreational use.

Now that we know a bit more the background and environnement of these two generations, we cannot be blame for being less effective in doing right links. We work we the tools with which we were raised to work with. Particularly for people like us that are studying in communication, our computer and phones serve us in our all activities.
