Toyota is reminding the public just how environmentally friendly and helpful the third generation Prius is, with 18-foot flower sculptures in cities across the United States. The Solar Flowers, also known as Harmony Between Man, Nature and Machine, include a place to sit and soak up the sun, and use their solar panels to provide free Wi-Fi access and charging stations. The Prius Solar Flowers spent a few days at a time in Boston, New York, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The outdoor flowers are an extension of the television advertising campaign, including Harmony, Solar, MPG.
The spot “Harmony” presents a lifeless, monochromatic landscape brought to life by the car’s passage. The idea behind this message is that by driving a Prius you enter the ''Harmony'', the place where man’s wants and nature’s needs agree. The slogan is also a very inspired one ''Moving Forward'' and the music brings a great contribution to the entire peaceful atmosphere of the spot (the Bellamy Brothers hit “Let Your Love Flow” performed by Petra Haden).
In my opinion, this is one of those 'high concept disguised behind something cool' commercials and to the untrained eye, it just looks like people taking the place of nature, moving in concert to look like grass and water and trees and the like. To the creators it's symbolic the connection between nature and automobiles and people. Anyhow, it looks neat, although it seems very similar to a fairy tale.
