Social Media internet campaigns

Today in class of Social Media we talked about internet campaigns. There are several internet campaigns like for example the election campaign on Twitter or other Social Media channels for the American President Barack Obama.

The lecturer showed us an internet campaign which is based on political and cultural topics. It’s the campaign “Kony 2012”. The main idea of that Social Media campaign from the NGO (Non-Government-Organization) Invisible Children is to stop the genocide and violence against the people in Uganda. The leader Joseph Kony of the African rebel group which is called L.R.A. (Lord’s Resistance Army) kidnaps kids and forces them to become a soldier. He distresses the kids in sexual ways and criminal ways. The organization wants to point to those criminal activities in Uganda via Social Media Networks. They want to keep people’s attention and government’s attention as well. Up to the present more than 3 mio people become a member to the Facebook page of Invisible Children.

Another example shows what Social Networks like Facebook or Twitter can effect. The internet campaign on Facebook focus the war between Iranian and Israelis. The campaign which is started from a 41-year old Israeli family father got very popular not only in these two countries. The background of this campaign was that the prime minister of Israel threatened Iran with military actions. But current surveys show that most of the Israelis don’t agree to that. So this was the reason why the Israeli family father starts the romantic “Israel loves Iran”- internet campaign. With this campaign he doesn’t only speaks form the heart of Israelis but also from the heart of Iranian.
