During this FIFA World Cup, McDonald's launch in Portugal this TV campaign:
Blue Shirt Guy:"Hey Simão! Are you already training the choreography for when you score, The BigMacMacLocoBigMac?
Simão:BigMacMaclocobig what?"
Off Voice: Celebrate Soccer with the Mc Menus FIFA World Cup 2010. McDonals': Feed the Passion"
For to do it they chosen Simão Saborosa, a former player of Portugal's National team, a really loved player, which means they had chosen celebrity endorsement. As you can see, in spite of the add being a little stupid nobody find out weird that Simão decided to do it. After all we had a lot of players singing on TV (Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo) dancing, and so on.
This add was broadcasted also on the cinemas.
So the funny story about this add is that this add made the biggest effect that Mc Donald's could ever wish:
*It became popular, for being creactive and funny. People spoke a lot about it and a lot of people dance on this way, during that time, just for fun, taking the add with them out of the borders.
*Simão Saborosa scored on the Portugal - North Korea game and made the dance, taking the add into the fields and putting again the mouth to mouth and buzz on portuguese society during the days after the game. I remember that on Facebook everybody was writing on their status about what they had just saw.
McDonald's might had spend a lot of money to do it but it was worthed. Simão scored on the championship and by doing the "BigMacMaclocoBigMac" dance while celebrating caught all people's and press's attention. He also answered some questions made by the press about this. So in the end McDonald's had a really big exposure just for this creative idea, and a lot of that was for free.
this one of the cases where celebrity endorsement and combined with creactivity might caught people's atention on TV (which in Portugal can be really hard) and "gain life" out of the "magic box".
