Wake up the town - Philips

Longyearbyen it's located on the western coast of Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago, on the southern side on Adventfjorden. It is one of the world's northernmost towns, and the most northerly town with a population of over 1,000.


The 26th of October will go out the sun and won't come back untill March, that's why Philips has choosen as the scenary for their new proyect; Wake up the Town

With it, the brand is meant to promote the device Wake-Up Light, an alarm clock that gradually emits light (such as sunlight) to ensure a smooth and relaxed awakening (nothing to do with conventional alarm clocks). Philips will distribute its new gadget among the inhabitants of Longyearbyen to help them get up every morning, which is especially hard on the long dark winter of the city.

Do you think Philips will improve Longyearbyen citizens awakening and make life easier during these four months? The brand is sure that: "We believe it will have a positive impact on their daily lives and we look forward to the outcome of the trial in the city early next year," said Daniel Adams, an expert on light therapy and senior application scientist of Philips said in a statement.
