McDonald's and Facebook go into business together


As it has announced for a few weeks already, Facebook is going to launch soon its own location feature for its users, using the Foursquare model. In this way, Facebook users can announce anytime their current location and check the one of their friends, and that's very important nowadays, considering that more than 100m people are connecting everyday through their mobile phones.

So what does Facebook bring new to the Foursquare technology? More than 400m active users worldwide and a partnership with McDonald's - the new frontier of advertising. Practically, when a person will sign in the virtual social network while being in a McDonald's restaurant, he will also post its logo. In this way, the brand will be advertised by its own consumers. How much did McDonald's pay for this privilege? Nothing! They were just smart enough to think about it before others.

Even though people are skeptics about the success that this advertising tool can reach, it's still worth trying, especially when it's free. And it's never smart to underestimate the power of this modern word of mouth.
