Advertisers and the elections

With the elections in France, the advertisers are becoming very creative. In fact, I really like to see how they react to the actuality and I think this is a very good point for a brand.

Either it is to catch the attention about an idea. For instance this campaign for the euthanasia :

On this picture we can see the candidates on an hospital bed and it says “ M. the candidate, do we have to put you in such a position to make yours evolve about euthanasia?”
I think it is very well done but I think it won’t change their minds. Because these ads touch their personal feeling and their position about euthanasia has nothing personal it is all political.

But fortunately sometimes the campaigns are more fun! For instance this ad where we can see the board where there are usually the candidates’ posters and here we can see a jockey and the sentence “Today bet on someone who can change your everyday life”. This ad is for the French equestrian bets.

However it is quite hard for the advertiser to play with the elections without unveiling his own opinions about it. Here we can see a brand who played it very well with two ads. These two ads must be seen together or we can imagine wrong ideas about their political position. (This is a brand who rents cars.)

On the first ad we can read “Sorry M. Sarkozy, in France we overtake by the left.”

On the second ad we can read “Sorry M. Hollande, in France we drive on the right[ side of the road]”

We need to know some of the political context to understand these advertisings. In fact, M. Sarkozy belongs to the right wing and M. Hollande belongs to the left wing. They are both on the runoff of the election.
